Digital Art Mentor (Winter 2026)

CodeWarriors is looking for a guest game artist / digital designer to join our Winter 2026 STEM Game Jams and Code Camps.

We’re seeking someone who enjoys game development, digital art, or creative design and would like to help inspire the next generation of young game developers.

This is a short-term mentoring and presentation opportunity connected to three Winter school holiday events across NSW.

About CodeWarriors

CodeWarriors runs small-group coding and game development programs for school students across NSW and ACT.

Students build projects using real tools including Python and the Godot Engine while learning through collaborative workshops, guided projects, and game jams.

Our Winter STEM Game Jams are connected to the Australian STEM Video Game Challenge and are designed to give students a fast-paced, studio-style game development experience.

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for a creative contributor interested in helping students explore the art and design side of game development.

This will ideally include:

  • presenting a short workshop session possibly demonstrating an effective, creative workflow or showing how assets are created for games (~30–60 minutes).
  • providing some simple reusable assets students can incorporate into their projects.
  • participating in a light mentoring / feedback session.

Sessions can be beginner-friendly and practical rather than highly technical.

Possible topics could include:

  • Pixel Art for Games
  • Character Design
  • Environment Art
  • UI Design
  • Animation Basics
  • Creating Reusable Asset Packs
  • Rapid Art Pipelines for Game Jams

Winter 2026 Events

We have 3 winter events planned:

  • 2 x two-day STEM Game Jams (July 6–7 in Bungendore, July 8–9 in Glenwood)
  • 1 x five-day Code Camp (July 13-17 in Lawson)

We are looking for the Digital Art Mentor to join each event for a short session (typically a couple of hours on one day of each event).

Remote participation is completely fine, though attending one event in-person would be fantastic.

The same presentation / material may be reused across the 3 events.

Participants

The Game Jam and Code Camp Students are in Years 4–11.

These events are beginner-friendly, though many students already have some coding or game development experience.

Students work in small collaborative teams and build projects using the Godot Engine. Most teams will develop a 2D game.

Why we’re doing this

We want students to experience game development as a collaborative creative field — not just programming.

The goal is to expose students to the broader disciplines involved in making games:

  • art
  • design
  • audio
  • teamwork
  • prototyping
  • iteration

We also want students to meet creatives and developers working or studying in these areas.

FAQ

Is this paid?

Yes — this is a paid workshop/mentor opportunity.

Can I participate remotely?

The 3 Winter events are in 3 different locations: Bungendore (near Canberra), Glenwood (Blacktown) and Lawson (Blue Mountains). If possible we'd love you to attend one or more of these events in-person, but we fully understand and support remote attendance via video call for the remaining session(s).

If you’re excited about sharing your skills and experience, and keen to help younger developers and artists getting started on their game creation journeys, we’d love to hear from you.
